SCAM EMAILS....TAKE NOTICE
An Applicant for a Special Permit from the Planning & Zoning Commission received a scam email, THE MORNING FOLLOWING the prior evening's meeting.
The SCAM EMAIL included a FAKE INVOICE in PDF Format with fraudulent instructions.
Take Notice of the FAKE EMAIL ADDRESS (see the attachment) in red from the sender posing as the Town P&Z Commission.
Always check the sender's email address. Burlington and most government agencies WILL NOT use a .COM email address as the FAKE EMAIL ADDRESS does.
The Town of Burlington WILL NOT EMAIL and/or MAIL INVOICES for any Land Use or Trade Permit applications or for any normal business conducted in any office of the Town Hall.
To date, the following towns have had similar SCAM Emails reported: Avon, Colchester, Coventry, Cromwell, Ellington, Enfield, Essex, Greenwich, Guilford, Hartford, Ledyard, Newington, Putnam, South Windsor, Tolland, Westport and this list is growing daily.
If it seems strange or out of the ordinary, it probably is! Reach out to your Burlington Town Hall contact (Zoning Enforcement Officer, Wetlands Agent, Town Clerk, etc.) using trusted methods.
Our Town Hall phone number is 860-673-6789. You can select the proper contact from the voice menu.
