Personal Property

By statute this year the Office of Policy & Management for the state of Connecticut has prescribed the form which must be used to file Personal Property Declarations. This form must be used, or your declaration will not be accepted. The forms on this website conform to that requirement.

All owners of business personal property must complete and return a declaration of personal property to the Assessor no later than November 1st annually. Declarations are mailed in September and must be filed by November 1st. Failure to file by that date will be subject to a 25% penalty. Business personal property includes everything used in your business except real estate. It includes such things as furniture, fixtures, computer equipment, tools, machinery, non-registered motor vehicles, signs, leasehold improvements, video tapes, vending machines, leased equipment and any other equipment used in your business. Other types of personal property that may be required to be filed are horses and farm equipment.
